Monster Employment Index
Definition
Monster collects job postings from 1,500 web sites (including Monster.com) and creates an index of job availability, akin to The Conference Board's help wanted index. The difference between the two is that one collects help wanted advertising from newspapers and the other collects from online posting. The Monster index is not seasonally adjusted. Why Investors Care

Released on 2/3/05 For Jan 2005
Monster Employment Index
 Actual 120

Highlights
The monster employment index rose to 120 in January vs. 113 in December. The month-to-month gain is strong as is the year-on-year gain, comparing with 93 in January last year.

Manufacturing was very strong for a second month, consistent with the ISM's manufacturing employment but contrasting with Challenger's layoff data yesterday.

The monster index is too new to have any impact on the financial markets, but today's results may quietly boost confidence for tomorrow's key employment report.
