 Previous 82.6

Highlights
State Street's institutional investors confidence index, pressured by weakness among North American investors, dropped 7.7 points to 74.3. This report showed strength in North American confidence through the rough month of August but no more. The report attributed the decline to a diminished outlook for consumer spending and global growth as well as pressures in the financial sector: "While institutional investors were happy to provide liquidity to other market participants during the market turmoil of August, they have now decided that the risks to the underlying economy are much greater than before, and have reduced their allocations to risky assets with purpose." The report said U.S. investors have cut allocations to equities here and particularly in emerging markets. The strength of this report during August was a surprise, but the current readings are consistent with the continuing stress in the financial markets.
